Do you need a sign permit?

Sign rules live in municipal zoning codes, which means they differ in every city and are written in language nobody enjoys reading. We read them and pulled out the numbers that decide what you can actually build — each one quoted from the ordinance itself so you can check it.

54 cities so far, 560 rules quoted. We're adding more. If your city is missing and you want it next, say so.

How this is put together

Each city's sign chapter is read in full and the key limits pulled out. Every figure has to be supported by a verbatim quote from the ordinance — if we can't quote it, we don't publish it. Where a rule lives in a table that depends on street type or lot size, we link to the table rather than risk reproducing it wrongly.

It's a summary, not legal advice. Sign codes change and most vary by zoning district, so confirm with the city before you order anything.
