What is work order?

Also called: Job ticket, shop traveler

A work order is the production document that travels with a job through the shop — specs, materials, quantities, artwork reference and finishing steps — translating what was sold into what gets made.

The quote speaks customer; the work order speaks floor: substrate and thickness, exact size, sides, laminate yes/no, grommet spacing, due date. Every 'that's not what I quoted' remake traces to information that lived in someone's head instead of on the ticket.

Paper travelers still run many shops and still get lost, stained and outdated the moment a change call comes in. The digital version is the same document with one advantage: it updates everywhere at once — the change made at the front desk is the change the floor sees.
