What is proof approval?
Also called: Sign-off, art approval
Proof approval is the customer's written confirmation that the proof is correct and production may start — the moment liability for the content shifts from the shop to the customer.
Approval must be written and attached to the job; a verbal OK protects no one. What's being approved should be explicit on the proof itself: spelling, layout, sizes, colours-as-representative, and the substrate. After approval, content errors are the customer's reprint; before it, they're yours.
The process failure isn't usually the approval — it's production starting without one because the schedule was tight. A workflow where the job physically can't advance until sign-off is recorded turns a policy into a guarantee.
