What is rush fee?

A rush fee is the surcharge — commonly 25 to 100 percent — for jobs that jump the production queue or require overtime to hit a customer's deadline.

It prices two real costs: the disruption to every other scheduled job, and the risk concentrated in work done fast (rush jobs skip the slack that absorbs mistakes). A shop that rushes for free trains its market to order late.

Publishing the policy changes the conversation from favour to transaction: 'we can hit Friday — the rush rate is 50%' is a business answer. The discipline is charging it consistently; the first free exception becomes the customer's permanent expectation.
