Magnetic Sheet

Removable vehicle graphics for people who cannot commit to a wrap. Simple to make, and the failures are all in the aftercare.

Also called Vehicle magnets, magnetic receptive sheet
Thicknesses 30 mil is the vehicle standard. Thinner stock exists but does not hold at highway speed.
Outdoor life Two to three years of intermittent use if the customer looks after them. Far less if they never come off the door.
Ballpark cost Sold by the roll rather than the sheet. Expect roughly 3 to 5 dollars a square foot in 30 mil before printing.

Ballpark trade prices for a 4 x 8 sheet as of August 2026, before markup. Yours will differ by supplier, region and how much you buy at once — treat these as a sanity check on a quote, not a price list.

What it actually is

Flexible ferrite loaded vinyl sheet, usually 30 mil for vehicle work, with a printable white face on one side and the magnetic face on the other.

What it is good for

What to watch for

They must come off and be cleaned regularly, and both surfaces dried. Left on for months, moisture and grit sit underneath and the paint below ends up marked or faded differently to the rest of the panel. Tell the customer this at the point of sale, in writing, or it becomes your problem.
They only work on flat steel. Body lines, plastic bumpers, aluminium panels and modern composite doors will not hold one, so check the actual vehicle before quoting.
Above roughly 70 mph a large magnet on a flat door can lift at a corner and go. Round the corners and keep the panel within the flat area.
Never apply over a fresh repaint. Paint needs weeks to fully cure and a magnet will mark it.

Printing and finishing

Print direct or apply printed vinyl to the white face, then laminate. The laminate is what stops the printed surface chalking, since these live outdoors and get handled constantly.

Magnetic Sheet — FAQ

How long do vehicle magnets last?

Two to three years with proper care, meaning they come off regularly and both surfaces get cleaned and dried. Left in place permanently they will mark the paint and the customer will blame the sign shop.

Will a magnet stick to my truck door?

Only if that panel is steel and flat. Many modern vehicles use aluminium or composite doors, and body creases break contact. Test the actual vehicle with a sample before quoting.

Do vehicle magnets damage paint?

Not the magnet itself. Damage comes from dirt and moisture trapped underneath, and from the covered area weathering differently to the paint around it. Regular removal prevents both.
