What is tiling?
Also called: Paneling
Tiling is splitting a graphic that is larger than the printer's media width into overlapping panels that are printed separately and aligned during installation.
A 54-inch printer doesn't stop walls being ten feet tall; tiling does the job. Panels print with a small overlap — typically half an inch to an inch — so the installer can align pattern and colour, then trim or leave the seam depending on the surface and film.
The traps: panels printed on different days can differ visibly in colour (print a wall in one run), and overlaps on textured walls telegraph unless the film is made for it. Plan seams to land off faces and focal points — a seam through a logo is a remake.
